The Anatomical Donor Stewardship Committee is hosting a one-day dissection workshop with
the opportunity to participate in one or both dissection workshops.
Workshop 1: Human Donor Dissection Workshop – Face, Cranial Vault & Brain – 9:00 am – 12:00 pm CT
Workshop Overview: Join members of the HAPS Anatomical Donor Stewardship Committee for an immersive, hands-on exploration of human donor anatomy focused on the face, cranial vault, and brain. Designed for all A&P educators, including but not limited to allied health and professional student faculty, this workshop combines guided dissection and prosection to reinforce regional anatomy and connect structural relationships to clinically relevant concepts. Participants will work with human donors preserved using both traditional formaldehyde embalming and a non-toxic green embalming technique, allowing comparison of preservation methods and tissue characteristics. Throughout the workshop, expert facilitators will guide participant through key anatomical structures while fostering collaborative, peer-to-peer learning in a supportive environment.
Workshop 2: Human Donor Dissection Workshop – Upper & Lower Limb Anatomy – 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm CT
Workshop Overview: Experience the anatomy of the upper and lower limbs through guided human donor dissection with members of the HAPS Anatomical Donor Stewardship Committee. This interactive workshop provides participants with hands-on experience exploring musculoskeletal, vascular, and neural structures while emphasizing clinically relevant anatomy for allied health professions. Participants will examine human donors preserved using both traditional formaldehyde embalming and a non-toxic green embalming technique, gaining insight into the advantages and applications of each preservation method. Through faculty-guided dissection, prosections, and collaborative peer-to-peer learning, attendees will develop a deeper appreciation for the functional anatomy of the limbs and their relevance to clinical practice.
NOTE: All attendees must wear lab-appropriate attire, including long sleeves, pants/skits, and closed-toed shoes. As participants will be dissecting, we recommend earning scrubs (not required) or older clothes you are comfortable dissecting in, as they may get dirty. Attendees will be provided with gloves, aprons, and masks at each session.
No prior dissection experience is required. As part of the workshop, participants will complete formaldehyde safety training and receive a certificate documenting completion.
