Call for Steering Committee Chair

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the position of Steering Committee Chair. This vital leadership role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of HAPS by guiding the work of our committees and collaborating closely with the Board of Directors.

Term Length: 3 years – starting July 1, 2026, with an appointment as Steering Chair in Training beginning January 1, 2026 to allow for shadowing and facilitation of a smooth leadership transition.

About the Steering Committee

The Steering Committee plays a central role in supporting the Board of Directors and coordinating the efforts of all HAPS committees. Its purpose is to:

  • Support strategic goals for the Society
  • Promote collaboration across committees
  • Advise the Board and provide regular progress reports

Chair Responsibilities

The Steering Committee Chair oversees all standing and special committees, working with committee chairs to align initiatives with the Society’s strategic plan. Key duties include:

  • Hosting monthly Steering Committee meetings and maintaining minutes
  • Providing monthly updates to the Board of Directors
  • Supporting onboarding of new committee chairs
  • Coordinating engagement activities at the annual conference
  • Serving on the Personnel Committee and Development Team
  • Leading portions of the mid-year meeting and the Second Timers Breakfast
  • Participating in Board meetings as a non-voting ex-officio member
  • Serves as co-Chair of the Welcoming & Belonging Committee

We are seeking persons with: 

  • Current and active HAPS membership. 
  • Previous and/or current leadership experience within HAPS for a minimum of two consecutive years. Experience as a Chair of a Standing Committee is preferred.

Please note: The Steering Committee Chair may not concurrently serve as an Elected Officer, Director, or Standing Committee Chair.
