These awards support the mission statement of the Society, which is to promote excellence in the teaching of human anatomy and physiology. All awards are administered through the HAPS Grants and Scholarships Committee.
The awards are briefly described below. Click on the name of any award to go to an award-specific page containing information about eligibility requirements, online application procedures and additional aspects of the award.
Awards are available only to current HAPS members.
THE ADInstruments SAM DROGO TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM AWARD
For the innovative use of technology to engage undergraduates in human anatomy and physiology. Award: $500 to attend the HAPS Annual Conference. Award recipients are encouraged to conduct a workshop featuring technology in education innovations at the conference. Three awards are available, all sponsored by ADInstruments, but use of ADInstruments equipment or software is not required. Application due January 4, 2019.
HAPS-THIEME EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD (withdrawn by Thieme)
[12/21/2018] We received word today that Thieme has decided to withdraw its support for the HAPS community, and as part of their desire to no longer participate in the HAPS community they have withdrawn the Thieme Excellence in Teaching Award.
GAIL JENKINS TEACHING AND MENTORING AWARD
This is an annual award for a HAPS member who demonstrates use of engaging learning activities to help students truly understand and retain the more difficult Anatomy and Physiology concepts with kinesthetic and active learning strategies using inexpensive everyday props. The award is also designed to recognize those willing to mentor other instructors to also incorporate active learning to benefit more students. Award: $1000 cash award provided by Wiley and registration waived for the HAPS Annual Conference in May 2019. Application due January 4, 2019.
All HAPS awards:
Cover registration fee for the 2019 HAPS Annual Conference plus $400 to help with travel expenses to attend the conference
Require award recipients to make a presentation at the 2019 HAPS Annual Conference
Require completion of an online application plus submission of one letter of recommendation separate from the application
The deadline to submit an application and letter of recommendation is January 4, 2019.

ROBERT B. ANTHONY TRAVEL AWARD
To encourage full-time faculty during their first five years of teaching anatomy and physiology to attend the HAPS Annual Conference and present either a poster or a workshop.
FULL-TIME FACULTY TRAVEL AWARD
To encourage full-time faculty with more than five years of teaching anatomy and physiology to attend the HAPS Annual Conference and present a workshop.
CONTINGENT FACULTY TRAVEL AWARD
To encourage contingent faculty (definition here) to attend the HAPS Annual Conference and present a workshop
GRADUATE STUDENT/POSTDOC TRAVEL AWARD
To encourage graduate students and postdocs to attend the HAPS Annual Conference and present either a poster or a workshop.
