TENURE TRACK ANATOMY FACULTY POSITION
The Division of Anatomy in the College of Medicine, The Ohio State University, seeks an Anatomist with a commitment to teaching and research to fill an assistant or associate professor tenure-track position beginning July 1, 2008. The Division of Anatomy is building a strong unit whose mission includes teaching, scholarship in education, and the training of future anatomists. The individual should have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree and formal education in cadaver-based human anatomy. Teaching experience in cadaver-based human anatomy is essential, and experience in histology, embryology and/or neuroanatomy is desirable. The primary teaching responsibility will be to teach a large undergraduate lecture/laboratory course in human gross anatomy. The individual will be expected to pursue funding for scholarly endeavors, to interact with members of the College’s Office for Scholarship in Medical Education, and to publish his/her scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals. Examples of preferred areas of scholarship are evidence-based pedagogy, the development of computer-assisted instruction, and the evaluation of educational outcomes. General Summary (Purpose) of Position The Physical Therapy Department of UMass Lowell is currently seeking applicants for a nine-month tenure-track position for academic year 2008-2009. The successful candidate will teach courses in Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy in the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy program, supervise gross anatomy cadaver lab, supervise student research and project completion, advise students, conduct research and pursue external funding, and participate in faculty governance and professional service.
Our department has provided physical therapy education for the past 26 years, and currently offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree for entry-level students. The department also offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology, which provides a career pathway into the department’s graduate program in Physical Therapy.
All faculty members are doctorally prepared, some with clinical specialist certification. Graduates of the program are highly competent and sought after, with first-time licensing pass rates consistently well above the national average.
The university, part of the five campus system of the University of Massachusetts created by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Legislature in July, 1991 includes the Lowell, Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth and Worcester campuses. Currently it is the largest institute of higher education in New England. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is a technologically-oriented campus with three degree clusters: 1) engineering /management/ science, 2) health, and 3) education. Graduate students account for 3,470 of the over 14,526 students enrolled in both state-supported and Continuing Education Programs. UMass Lowell is a nationally ranked research university with over 26 million dollars in funded research being conducted each year
The School of Health and Environment also includes Departments of Nursing, Clinical Laboratory and Nutritional Sciences, Community Health and Sustainability, and Work Environment. Interdepartmental relationships are good and collaborative projects are enhanced by the Center for Health Promotion and the Center for Health and Disease Research. Department research support includes state of the art cardiopulmonary, motion analysis and neurological assessment facilities. Individual faculty members are engaged in a variety of research projects, some including community outreach projects. The university supports faculty research and funding through the Research Foundation. The university provides professional development funding for individual faculty and offers an extensive on-campus faculty development program through the Faculty Teaching Center and the Council for Teaching, Learning, and Research as Scholarship. The Council sponsors numerous seminars, seed grants, a peer support system, and conferences highlighting innovations in teaching. Additional support for faculty including funding for seed grants is available from other campus centers, e.g. The Council for Diversity & Pluralism. Faculty from the Department of Physical Therapy is actively involved in these programs. The university recognizes faculty excellence in teaching, research, and academic advising.
The city of Lowell is located 25 miles north of Boston in the heart of the birthplace of America’s Industrial Revolution and site of an Urban State and National Park. The Merrimack River runs through this city of 103,000 which hosts the Tsongas Civic Center, university and professional baseball at LeLacheur Park, and hockey adjacent to the University’s campus. Access to Boston and Worcester is easy via car or commuter train. The lakes and mountains of New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, as well as the shores and beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod, are short driving distances away.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Earned Doctorate in anatomy or neuroscience • Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. • Demonstrated ability teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels • Commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. • Demonstrated research experience and productivity. • Background in curriculum development, outcomes assessment, and distance-learning is desirable. • Demonstrated ability working with diverse student and faculty population.

Earlham College invites applications for a Vertebrate Physiologist. This is a full-time, one-year appointment in the Biology Department at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2008.
The Department seeks an individual that is first and foremost excited about teaching physiology — in lecture, laboratory and research venues — to bright and motivated undergraduates in a nationally ranked department at a small liberal arts college.
Teaching responsibilities include a human physiology course(s), an upper-level specialty course, and contributions to team-taught introductory courses in cell physiology and genetics. Applicants who have an interest in one or more of the following are especially attractive: comparative physiology, anatomy, neurophysiology, systems biology, use of 'omics' tools.
